Irina Skvortsova, the Russian bobsledder...

"Irina is getting better," the athlete"s mother, Galina, said adding that Irina had been able to walk 30 meters using special equipment.

On November 23 during a training run, Skvortsova received multiple fractures including to her hips and back when the Russian women"s team tipped over in the sled and stopped, after which the Russian men"s team crashed into them from behind at full speed on a bobsleigh track in Koenigssee. Doctors initially planned to amputate the leg. She was kept in induced coma for nearly two months after the accident and underwent numerous operations, including the removal of blood clots in her leg and multiple skin grafts.

The doctor who performed the latest surgery examined Irina"s right leg once again before her departure from Munich and was pleased to see that she was recuperating. However, the bobsledder"s mother said Irina only has feeling in her right leg up to the thigh.
