"The agreement provides a legal framework for the importation of spent nuclear fuel from the research reactor at the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Science into Russia for the purpose of temporary technological storage and processing," Rosatom said in a statement.
Work on removing Russian-sourced uranium from foreign research reactors is being conducted within the framework of a Russian-U.S. agreement, and is aimed at reducing the amount of highly enriched uranium in third countries.
