Kuranyi, who was born in Brazil to a German-Hungarian father and a Panamanian mother, has won 52 caps for the German national side, scoring 19 goals.

Lokomotiv Moscow play their first match of the new Russian season on Saturday, when they host Moscow Region side Khimki. Lokomotiv, league champions in 2002 and 2004, finished seventh for the second season in a row in 2008.

In other news, unconfirmed media reports said Turkish club Galatasaray FC had agreed to sell Portuguese international Fernando Meira to Zenit St. Petersburg for $7.6 million. The information has not yet been confirmed by either club.
