In a first-round match that lasted 1 hour and 42 minutes, number 10 seed Davydenko defeated in straight sets Stefan Koubek of Austria 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.

Youzhny took ten minutes longer to reach the second round, beating Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 7-6 (7-2), 6-1, 6-4.

Davydenko now faces either Diego Junqueira of Argentina or Chile"s Paul Capdeville, while Youzhny will take on the winner of the encounter between Romania"s Victor Hanescu (seeded 30th) and Steve Darcis of Belgium.

MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - Two caches of weapons have been discovered in the North Caucasus republics of Daghestan and Chechnya, Russian police said Saturday. The stash in Chechnya"s Shatoi District contained a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two mortar projectiles, 12 cartridges for grenade launchers and 272 other rounds of ammunition. The cache in Daghestan was found to contain a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two F-1 grenades and 186 rounds of ammunition. Investigations are underway.
